Soon or relatively soon in the 7-inch Series. It’s the B-side of the “Radio Tokyo” single by Hookworms on Too Pure. This video is ace.

TPSC keeps it rawk with this ace single by Beard Of Wolves. Somewhat reminiscent of good old Death From Above 1979, methinks. The BC player above features their Wolf Skulls EP, which includes the two tunes on this 45.

TPSC strikes again. Or struck, rather, as this one was released in November 2012. I’m not always in the mood for this sound, but it’s rather good. What is this, “chamber pop”? My favourite is the A-side, I like the changes, it’s a four-minute suite and it vaguely reminds me of some of my beloved Motorpsycho‘s stuff.
Which is nice.
I think this is their first release on vinyl, after a CD EP, a cassette and a digital only single.

“Lifeguard” by Londoners Friendship is my favourite of the two on this Too Pure Singles Club release from last year, but Die! Die! Die!’s “We Built Our Own Oppressors” isn’t half bad, either. The latter can also be found on their album Form, on the fantastic Flying Nun. They have just released a new full-length, Harmony, and I think it’s rather good.
Not sure what’s going on with Friendship (who had already featured in the TPSC in 2009, by the way). They (or he) don’t seem to have been too active lately. Which is a shame.
7-inch Series, part 758 – Fear Of Men
Fear Of Men – Mosaic
label: Too Pure
year: 2012

side a: Mosaic
side b: Your Side
Another fine delivery in the Too Pure Singles Club, this time by Brighton/London band Fear Of Men. Slightly melancholic, pure pop sweetness for your soul.
They’ve just premiered a video for “Mosaic”.
Which is nice.
7-inch Series, part 743 – Deaf Club

That’s the thing with Single Clubs, you sign up for a whole year, and some of the releases might not be quite your cup of tea. It happened with Clubfeet, and now with this one by Deaf Club. It’s not that I find it horrible or anything, I’m just hardly ever in the mood for this sound. Or make that never.
7-inch Series, part 741 – Dead Skeletons
Dead Skeletons – Om Mani Peme Hung

side a: Om Mani Peme Hung
side b: Yama
Once again-gain-gain ladies and gentlemen, a TPSC release, by Dead Skeletons from Iceland this time, and on luscious blue transparent vinyl oh yes. Ten minutes of dark, psychedelic pleasure, just the way I like it baby I don’t wanna live forever. Both tracks are taken from the album Dead Magick.
7-inch Series, part 737 – Cowbell
Cowbell – Never Satisfied
label: Too Pure
year: 2010
cowbelltheband.co.uk
side a: Never Satisfied
side b: Ain’t Pretending
Yet another winner from the TPSC, by the brilliant Cowbell this time. According to the UK twosome’s Bandcamp page, the vinyl is sold out, but you can still get it from Discogs and maybe even your favourite vinyl pusher. These two tunes have exactly the sound for me, with the right amount of dirt in the grooves. On last year’s single “Hanging By A Thread” (will be featured in this series in the future, because I haven’t bought received it yet), they sound slightly cleaner, but on the upcoming “Tallulah” (due out next week on the ever trustworthy Damaged Goods, which will also bring you their debut album Beat Stampede in October) this mistake seems to be corrected. Can’t wait to hear the album!
7-inch Series, part 735 – Clubfeet

Another Too Pure Singles Club 7″, and another Aussie band, too. But nothing like Civil Civic. In fact, I find it a pretty surprising sound for Too Pure.
I don’t particularly like the A–side, it’s a bit too wrong–side–of–the–80s for my taste, and the beat is a tad boring. The B–side is more my thing. But I have a love–hate thing with bands like Clubfeet. Some tunes on their album Gold On Gold I like a lot, but when they go all dancey-poppy-happy-indie-kiddie, I get the uncontrollable urge to play The Mummies. Same goes for Cut Copy and Hot Chip, who they sound like at times, especially on the vocal part.
Anyways, here‘s a free download of the Dublin Aunts remix of “City Of Light”.

side b: C27 – Live

I remember the name of that place in Kilburn now! It was The Luminaire. I saw these guys at the same Chap gig, they were warming up and rocked. Civil Civic are an Australian duo based in Europe (one in London, one in Barcelona) who play, well, this music. This single was part of the Too Pure Singles Club, but they have since release a few more things: “Street Trap”, Rules (“Lights On A Leash” is on that), and “New!” (a discarded track from the Rules sessions). The studio version of “C27” was on their cassette album 1.
“Lights On A Leash” was also released as a free file by the brilliant Bad Panda label, by the way.
