I discovered Allah-Las when digging for info on Hanni El-Khatib (more on him in part 748 or 749). I went onto the Innovative Leisure site, where they were mentioned, and the next thing I know I got the uncontrollable urge to get me one of those “Catamaran” singles. It was already sold out on the Pres website, but I found it on Discogs (at a much lower price than what they’re going for these days). Yay.
I love this sound, and I love that there are loads of new bands making it. It sounds like long, hot summers, and I love long, hot summers. I love a lot of things, see. “Catamaran” was produced by another vintage sounding man, Nick Waterhouse, who I also discovered, of course, on that same trip. More on him in part, oh, I don’t know, 800+ I guess. Allah-Las recently did a split 8″ with him on Innovative Leisure, and their first full-length is expected for this fall. I can’t wait. Now if they would only come to Madrid so I can kiss their feet.
Check out the rather ace mixtape Allah-Las’ Spencer D uploaded yesterday, and while you’re at it, drop by at Daytrotter for their session past May.
