Stock Aitken Waterman AKA the Unholy Trinity among some of my friends at the time, for they were the ones who brought Rick Astley, Jason Donovan, Sammie Fox and Kylie to musical stardom and turned Banarama ito some cheesy cover band.

On the other hand, they were also responsible for Dead Or Alive‘s “You Spin Me Round” and “You Think You’re A Man” by Divine, which I liked. It was a time of war at school, it was the ones who liked “alternative” music against those who loved anything that was in the pop charts, as long as it was stupid. Every day there was a DJ playing in the school cafeteria during morning and lunch breaks, and on days one of “us” played most of the others simply left the room because of the noise. But that was usually one day a week, the other days it was Rick fucking Astley ’till you dropped.

Secretly though, or maybe not so secretly, there were some things I really dug, like Mel & Kim or this silly “Roadblock” single.
Oh man, if only I had known then what I know now. Wouldn’t have bovvered.

Video of “Roadblock”.

  1. That’s what we need on Hypem – more Stock Aitken and Watermann. Perhaps you could start posting some tracks from XFactor and Britain’s Got Talent too. You know, Piers Morgan’s favourites, that kind of thing.
