Ah, the good old days. Working at the Spanish distributor of then-hyped labels as Epitaph and Fat Wreck, Propagandhi, NOFX, Bad Religion, Pennywise and The Offspring were my daily bread during a couple of years. It was always weird to deal with people who called themselves punks while becoming filthy rich by selling millions of records, but most of them were okay I guess. Even though we mostly laughed at them when they came to tour in Spain, as many of them weren’t half as hard they pretended to be, like this one band, I don’t remember which one it was, who disappeared into the dressing room at the Revolver when someone threw a beer bottle at them. And only came out to play on because the alternative was to get killed by the raging teens in the mosh pit.
Of course, we were just jealous that our fast talking Californian colleagues over at Epitaph HQ could work on their laptops in the garden of their building while we in Madrid were slaving in a dusty office with no airco and computers that didn’t work half of the time, and it was 40 degrees celsius and 50% percent of the record stores imported the best-selling records directly from the USA instead of buying them from us and Epi were giving us shit because sales were not high enough. Good times, good times.
Still, I liked most of the stuff they released. Like this one. The other day I was at the office of the distributor we use at my present job, and to my surprise they had a new album by the band lying on the table. I didn’t even know they were still around.
