This is music for lovers, my friends. Bob & Gene recorded this as their first single on Mo Do Records, Bob’s father’s label, in 1967. It was also the first release of the label period, and in the following years Mo Do would give out a string of 45s until, in 1971, they went bust. Bob & Gene’s album, If This World Were Mine, was recorded but never released. Until the rather fantastic Daptone label got hold of it a couple of years ago.
I love the sound of these tracks. It’s lo-fi and dripping with soul, and I can hardly believe the two young’uns were only fifteen and sixteen when they record it. Bless Daptone for giving us this music.
